Aeropress

Aeropress

Brew Time: 2 mins 30 secs

Serves: 1 mug

About this method

The AeroPress is a compact pressure brewer that punches well above its weight. By combining immersion brewing with paper filtration, it delivers the best of both worlds — the body of a plunger and the clean finish of a pour-over.

Short brew time, fine filter grind, and a gentle press mean you’re getting a smooth, balanced cup with low bitterness and full flavour. It’s tidy, travel-friendly, and hard to mess up — which is why it’s loved by pros, home brewers, and over-caffeinated coffee fanatics at the AeroPress World Champs.

Great for bold blends or fruit-forward singles — just like Max, it’s simple, consistent, and up for anything.

What you'll need:

  • 15g filter grind coffee

  • 250ml water

  • Aeropress filter paper

  • Kitchen Scales

  • Timer

The Max Method

Step 1

Pop a paper filter into the cap, lock it into the AeroPress body, and rinse it with hot water to ditch that papery flavour.

Step 2

Place the AeroPress (filter side down) on your favourite mug, which is sitting on your kitchen scales like a good little helper.

Step 3

Add 15g of coffee. Zero your scales. Take a moment to admire your precision.

Step 4

Start your timer. Add 30ml of hot water (just off the boil). Give it a stir. Let it bloom for 30 seconds. It's like a pit stop on your way to coffee greatness.

Step 5

Top it up with the remaining 220ml of water. Pop the plunger on top like a lid. Don’t press it yet — anticipation is key.

Step 6

Remove it from the scales. Wait patiently for 2 minutes. Try not to stare at it the whole time.

Step 7

Push the plunger down slowly until you hear that glorious hiss. That’s the sound of victory. Drink and enjoy — you’ve earned it.
