Brew Time: 2–5 minutes
Serves: Depends on your pot size (but always worth the wait)
About This Method
Ask any Nonna — this little stovetop legend is a kitchen staple in Italy. The Moka Pot brews strong, bold coffee without needing a flash espresso machine that hogs half your bench space.
It works by forcing hot water through fine coffee grounds, giving you that intense, espresso-style brew — minus the café price tag. Nail your grind size, pick the right roast (we rate our Morning Blend), and tweak the heat to dial in your perfect stovetop ritual. Big flavour. Small footprint.
What You’ll Need
-
Espresso/fine ground coffee
-
Stove
-
Your favourite Moka Pot (well-seasoned preferred)
The Max Method
Step 1
Fill the bottom chamber with water up to just below the valve. Don’t cover the valve — unless you’re into high-stakes espresso roulette.
Step 2
Insert the basket and fill it with coffee right to the top. Level it off, but no tamping — it’s a pot, not a portafilter.
Step 3
Screw the top on nice and tight (but not Hulk-tight).
Step 4
Pop it on the stove over medium-high heat. Lid open so you can watch the magic happen.
Step 5
As soon as it starts to gurgle, hiss, and generally sound like it’s trying to start a band — take it off the heat. Serve straight, or add a splash of milk. And boom — espresso vibes, stovetop style.
Top Tips
☕ Too bitter? Try cranking the heat so the water pushes through faster.
☕ Too sour? Ease off the heat to give the brew more time to sweeten up.
